Ultimate Timeshare

“I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14: 2

At some point in rather recent history, someone with more business sense that I have created a money-making real estate concept known as “time share” vacationing. The internet information site known as Wikipedia defines a time share as, “a form of ownership or right to the use a property, or the term used to describe such properties.” So, by definition, you can own a time share week or time share weeks at a vacation resort and simply refer to the time as a “time share,” and you can call the condominium, town home, apartment, or hotel property your “time share,” and you would be correct in both references.

The amount of your ownership is normally identified in weeks of the year. Sometimes, you own a specific week in a specific month of each year. That means, you own the right to stay at the property every calendar year, but only in the week of the month which you have purchased. Sometimes, your purchase allows you to use the property during any of a number of weeks of the year, but you must call to make reservations early, as others also have the right to use the property during the same number of weeks.

So, in essence, what you “own” in a time share is a right to use a property…you do not actually own the property itself. You cannot build on the property; you cannot remodel the property; you cannot sell the actual property; you must share the property. This is not too difficult to understand.

The apostle John records the words of Jesus in Chapter 14 that address a property ownership that is far beyond our ability to understand. Jesus said, “in my father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

If we can truly call God our Heavenly Father, and if we have accepted the gift of salvation that was made available by the sacrifice Jesus paid on the cross, we have waiting for us a property in Heaven that was prepared by Jesus, and we will not be limited to one week per year in usage. Oh, there will be many other members of the family of God there, but we have no cause to call-ahead to ensure that the space is available and not taken by someone else. The next verse in the Book of John reads that Jesus will come again, that where He is, there we shall be also. The reservation of a Christian is already secured, and the property…is far too incredible for us to imagine.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for preparing a place for me. Until the day I get there, let me tell those around me that they can see the property one day, too. Amen
