“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.” 1 John 4:18
A few years ago I was in Dallas and decided to visit T.D. Jake’s church, The Potter’s House, on a Sunday morning. As I entered the parking lot, excitement and anticipation overtook me.
Walking into the building and sanctuary I thought this is as close to heaven as I’ve ever been. The service was angelic and filled with God’s love. I was lost in the spirit of worship and for a moment had forgotten about the pressures that had been weighing heavily upon me.
About halfway through the service a dear lady, whom I didn’t know, leaned over and said “God gave me a word for you.” I was stunned, but eagerly waited to hear what God had to say. She whispered, “Perfect love casts out all fear. Perfect love casts out fear.”
As she spoke those words my heart melted. I had been carrying around some big fears and yet God, through this precious woman, was reminding me that Jesus was the only one who could cast out these fears. He was the only one who was going to get me through.
What do you fear today? Loss of job, loss of loved one, a crumbling marriage, a rebellious child, financial bankruptcy?
Fear not. Give your struggles to Jesus for His perfect love casts out fear.

Few things are even as wonderful as a brother or sister in Christ delivering a Word from the Lord. Perfect love casts out fear. At this very moment I have fear for a sister in Christ in Lufkin, TX. Belinda Teer was diagnosed with breast cancer a few days ago and will begin chemotherapy this week, following the placement in her of a port. She has two sons, about age 10 and 9, and her husband, I think, is not a believer. She is the director of music at First Christian Church in Lufkin, Texas. I fear for what Belinda and her family will have to endure, and even the outcome. I pray that she draws on the perfect love of our Lord to cast out her fear, and I ask for prayer for Belinda and her family. God bless you!
