Jesus said, “Come, follow me. . ." Matthew 4:19
. . . and they left at once.
Think about it, they left at once. Immediately. No time for thinking about it. No time for arguing. No preparation time. They just followed at that particular moment in time.
The fishermen must have sensed the urgency Christ had to His mission and purpose. Do you sense the urgency? The fishermen heard the call and answered immediately. Dropped their nets, left their families and followed. You do that, don’t you? You hear Christ call and you answer with an affirmative, “Yes, I’ll follow.”
Then if you are anything like me, the moment slips by. I said I'd follow, but before I know it a month has slipped away. I lost the urgency of the moment to follow Christ. Sometimes following Him means just picking up the phone, writing a card, or stopping by to visit someone in need.
We need to learn from the fishermen, they obeyed at once. Immediately, they took action. May we sense the urgency of Christ call and nudgings and take action at once.

Immediately They Followed

This reminds me of something I wrote recently after contemplating the simple command of Jesus, "follow me." An excerpt of words God gave me follows:
~~~
Follow me
He says to us today
So that all will know
He is the only way
Follow me
I’m coming back for you
Oh, that all would know
That His word is true
But the question now
I should be asking is how
I can make Him known
To the world be shown
And I must find a way
He’s coming back someday
I need to make Him known
To the world be shown
~~~
A friend who pastors a church in East Texas teaches that Jesus was looking for followers, not admirers.
The question, now, I must be asking is how I can make Him known.
Right now there is a path for you to walk on. You need to take up your cross and follow Me. Do what I say with pinpoint obedience. Don’t question. Don’t argue. Don’t have to know why. Just do what I say. I will show you what to do as you walk the path. Ask yes or no when you come to a time of decision. I will answer. The reason for your confusion is you have rethought the problem, and rethought the answer time and time again, until you have become double minded. Following Me is not always easy but it is simple. Take up your cross and follow Me.
Matthew 16:24-25 “Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” Bev Robinson
