“…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you…” Acts 1: 8
Following the landfall of Hurricane Ike in southeast Texas, literally millions are left without electricity from all over the United States. I have been placing phone calls and sending e-mails to many family members, friends in Houston and in east Texas to learn how they fared following Hurricane Ike’s travel through their area. I still have not heard from several friends in east Texas, including the pastor of First Christian Church of Lufkin, who is a dear friend. I finally heard from one friend who relayed to me that he lived through 6 days without electricity.
Electricity powers so many of our appliances in our home. We may have trouble even naming them all, and part of that reason is because we so easily take them for granted. I pray that through the experience of Hurricane Ike, we may find renewed appreciation for “power,” and remember that while electricity can be interrupted, nothing at all can interrupt the power of God’s Holy Spirit.
When we become a born-again follower of Christ, we receive HIS power to serve Him daily. May we never forget this, and may we never take it for granted.
Isaiah 40:28-29 “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of His understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”
Prayer: Father God, thank you that the power of your Holy Spirit is an endless supply. We pray for the many who are still struggling with destruction from Hurricane Ike. We pray both wisdom and courage to utilize the power of the Holy Spirit to honor you daily.
Amen.
