By His Spirit

“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty. Zechariah 4:6 NLT

The Lord revealed to Zechariah that the reconstruction of the temple will assuredly come to completion. Reading Zechariah 4:9-10 the Lord says, “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. Who despises the day of small things?”

Zerubbabel had to start somewhere. I wonder if he was overwhelmed as he looked at the project ahead. Did he say, “There’s no way. I’m not cut out for this job”?

Praise God Zerubbabel took one small step and began the project and then continued to take one small step after another. He didn’t rebuild the temple in his own strength or mighty power. It was the Lord’s Spirit that saw it to completion.

What are you building today? A career? A home? A reputation? Are you using your own strength? Does the building process leave you frustrated? Tired? Or even overwhelmed?

What ever you're building, give it to God. His Spirit will see it to completion as His everlasting peace surrounds you.

Because You Say So

Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets.” Luke 5:5 NIV

Because You say so. These four words show an obedient heart in the making. The odds might be stacked against you and nothing may make sense, but if the Lord has called you to follow - you must.

Lord, I don’t want to move – but because You say so, I will go.

Lord, I can’t rejoice in my circumstances – but because You say so, I will.

Lord, I haven’t caught any fish – but because You say so, I’ll try one more time.

Lord, I’m frustrated today – but because You say so, I will continue on.

If you’re experiencing similar situations, remember – because He says so – He loves you, forgives you, leads you, and dwells within you.

For You I Wait

Psalms 25:4-5 "Make me know Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day."

Can you believe May will be here this week? 2008 certainly seems to be flying by. Take time this week to examine yourself and the paths to which you are headed. Don’t let this year slip away. Spend time reflecting on your spiritual, family, financial and emotional goals. Ask God to make known His ways and teach you the path to follow.

Wait for His answers. Wait while lingering in His Word. Wait for Him to speak.

The only way to know His ways, paths, and truths is to know Him.

Jesus Take the Wheel

Psalm 31:24 MSG, “Be brave. Be strong. Don't give up. Expect God to get here soon.”

Have you heard the song “Jesus Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood? I’m trying to give Jesus the wheel of my life. I’m trying to let go, but it is a daily battle.

Learning to surrender and follow Christ is hard. Obedience comes when I throw my hands up and just let Him drive. Partial obedience, taking the wheel back every now and then, is not seen as obedience in Christ’s eyes. He wants the whole steering wheel. It’s time I let go of my controlling nature and give Him the wheel.

Don’t give up on Christ; turn the wheel over to Him and let Him drive. He tells us, “Be brave, and be strong. Give me the wheel and we’ll get there soon.”

Plan With the End in Mind

I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. Isaiah 46:10 MSG

Purpose. It is only seven letters, but that word stands for something so big and powerful it can be overwhelming. The Thesaurus says purpose is “an anticipated outcome that guides your planned actions.” Your purpose is what guides your intentions and is bigger than a goal – it should be the point and basis behind your every action.

Jesus came with purpose. Luke 19:10 NIV says, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” Read through scripture and you see that He lived his purpose in everything He did and said. He knew the end of the story from the beginning. Do you want to live with purpose? Can you see the end from the beginning? Or can you see the end from today? The end will arrive. There is no escaping it. One way or another the day will come when you will hear Jesus say, “Well done.”

Spend time thinking about the day you meet Christ. From today forward, plan and be purposeful with that end in mind. To what purpose has Christ called you to take a stand? The words “Well done” await you. Plan with the end in mind. The end.
